This Month’s Focus: How do we Support Employee Health and Wellness?

April showers bring May flowers, and a fresh edition of The Beat. This month, we are focusing on how we support health and wellness across our team, from encouraging active lifestyles to offering benefits that make a difference both inside and outside the emergency room.

This Month’s Focus: How do we Support Employee Health and Wellness?

The idea for this topic came after our teams participated in the Step into Heart Health Challenge during American Heart Month. It was a simple concept that turned into something really meaningful across our facilities.

Walking is one of the easiest ways to take care of your heart. According to Harvard Health, just 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease by around 30 percent. With that in mind, we introduced a step challenge as a fun way to get our teams moving.

Employees across all of our Texas facilities tracked their steps throughout February, with top participants recognized at each of our ERs. One team member went above and beyond, reaching 749,039 steps in just 28 days. That is roughly 300 to 375 miles walked in a single month, which is just as impressive as it sounds.

This kind of energy does not just show up during a challenge. Our teams stay active together outside of work as well. Earlier this year, some of our Houston teams participated in the Chevron Houston Marathon. More recently, teams from across Texas showed up for the Statesman Capitol 10K in Austin. It says a lot when people choose to spend their time outside of work showing up for each other in this way.

“The Cap 10K was a great opportunity to connect with Ally Medical ER teammates from all across Texas,” Ashby Snow, Senior Marketing Operations Manager said. “The race was even more enjoyable having my teammates alongside me, sharing a bond through our love of running and supporting one another in such an encouraging, uplifting environment.”

We also make sure our employees have the support they need to take care of their health. That includes benefits that help them stay active, whether that means joining a gym, training for a race, or just building healthier routines.

This commitment was recently recognized when Ally Medical ER received multiple 2026 Culture Excellence and Industry Awards from TopWorkplaces.com, including awards for compensation, benefits, and employee well-being.

Our mission is to deliver exemplary experiences to our patients, team members, and the communities we serve. Supporting our team members is a big part of that. When people feel supported in their health, it shows up in the way they care for others.

“Employee wellness is not built through big initiatives alone. It is created through simple, consistent actions that bring people together,” Jessica Castillo, Vice President of Human Resources said. “When we support our teams in taking care of their health, whether through a step challenge or everyday habits, we are not just improving well being. We are strengthening culture, connection, and the way we care for others.”

Research from the National Institutes of Health shows that regular exercise is linked to higher happiness, lower stress, and better overall life satisfaction. That is something we want for every member of our team.

At Ally Medical ER, we are not just healthcare professionals. We are people who take care of ourselves so we can better take care of others. When our teams feel healthy and supported, it shows in every patient interaction. And that is something we are proud of.
