The Beat: What Defines an Exemplary Patient Experience?

The Beat for this month is here, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at life at Ally Medical Emergency Room and the connections we build with each other and the communities we serve. This month’s focus is on patient satisfaction and the steps we’ve taken to make sure our patients leave our facilities with peace of mind, while helping them feel supported and cared for every step of the way.

This Month’s Focus: What Defines an Exemplary Patient Experience?

At Ally Medical ER, everything begins with our mission:

“To deliver exemplary experiences to our patients, team members, and the communities we serve.”

This isn’t something we reference after the fact. It’s what drives how we show up in every moment.

It shapes how we hire, how we train, how we communicate, and how we care.

A great patient experience isn’t something we hope to achieve, it’s something we intentionally design around.

We do measure patient satisfaction, and we were proud to start 2026 with the highest company-wide average patient satisfaction rating we’ve achieved to date, along with more than 20,000 five-star Google reviews.

But what matters most to us isn’t the numbers themselves, it’s what they represent.

Moments where someone felt seen.

Heard.

Cared for.

“What makes me most proud is hearing directly from our patients. When I read their feedback, I see all the small, meaningful things our teams do every day, things that aren’t written in any job description but come from a genuine desire to care. When those moments are thoughtful and intentional, patients don’t just receive care, they experience it. That’s what defines a great patient experience, and that’s what we strive to deliver every single day,” said Izaan Roos, Vice President of Operations.

That kind of experience doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with a strong foundation and a clear sense of purpose behind the care.

And what may surprise people is that it doesn’t just come from clinical treatment, it comes from the people behind it.

A strong mission, culture, and set of values only matter if they show up day to day. For us, that means being just as intentional about the experience of our team members as we are about our patients, because the two are deeply connected.

In partnership with TopWorkplaces.com, Ally Medical ER is a 2026 Culture Excellence and Industry Awards winner across several categories, including innovation, work-life flexibility, compensation and benefits, leadership, purpose and values, employee appreciation, professional development, employee well-being, and healthcare industry recognition.

Our commitment to culture was also recognized when Ally Medical ER was named a 2025 Austin American-Statesman Top Workplace for the third consecutive year in the Austin-area, earning the number one ranking in the midsize employer category. In their coverage, employees described the culture as “joyful” and collaborative, which we’ll happily take.

When you have the right mission and the right people behind it, those small, thoughtful moments tend to show up without being forced. You notice it in how teams support each other, how patients are welcomed, and the attention given to things that might seem small but actually make a big difference.

From the moment someone walks into an Ally Medical ER, that mission is already in motion. They’re greeted quickly, seen without long waits, and cared for by a team that takes the time to listen and explain.

Sometimes it’s the clinical care. Sometimes it’s a warm blanket, a snack or water when medically appropriate, or a teddy bear for a nervous child. But more often, it’s something less visible, the tone of voice, the eye contact, and the reassurance that they’re not just another patient moving through a system.

And that same mindset carries through after a visit.

Our billing advocates help guide patients through what can often feel like a confusing process with clarity, patience, and empathy.

We’re just as intentional about who we bring onto our billing team as we are with every role across our ERs. From physicians to nurses to billing advocates, we look for people who lead with compassion and genuinely care about others.

Because ultimately, it’s the people and the standards we hold ourselves to that bring our mission to life.

A great patient experience isn’t built in one moment. It’s built in all of them, in the small decisions, the thoughtful pauses, and the way we choose to show up for one another.

And it all traces back to one thing: a mission that leads, and a team committed to living it every day.
