Your Emergency Plan: 5 Things to Have Ready Before You Need the ER

Emergencies are, by nature, unpredictable. When every second counts, being prepared can make a huge difference. Not just in your outcome, but in your peace of mind.

Here are five simple things you can do right now to make sure you and your family are ready before an emergency strikes.

1. Know Where to Go

Identify the nearest emergency room, preferably one that’s open 24/7 and can treat a wide range of conditions. Save the address and phone number in your phone and post it somewhere visible at home. Find your nearest Ally Medical Emergency Room here

2. Keep Important Medical Info Handy

Have a written or digital list of key medical details for each family member, including:

  • Allergies

  • Medications

  • Chronic conditions

  • Past surgeries or major illnesses

  • Emergency contacts and primary care physician

3. Pack a Quick-Grab Bag

In an emergency, the last thing you want to do is scramble for essentials. If you can, consider keeping a small bag ready with your ID, insurance card, a list of medications or conditions, a phone charger, snacks, water, and comfort items for kids. And if you come to Ally Medical ER, we’ve got you covered—we keep phone chargers, snacks, water, and kid-friendly comfort items on hand to help make your visit a little easier.

4. Understand What Counts as an Emergency

Not sure when to go to the ER? Learn the signs of serious symptoms, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe injuries, stroke symptoms, and allergic reactions. When in doubt, go. It’s always better to be safe.

5. Know About Financial Support Options

Fear of cost should never delay emergency care. Ally Medical Emergency Room offers a Care Relief Program to help reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses. Keep this in mind and apply early if a visit occurs.

The Bottom Line

No one plans for an emergency, but a little preparation goes a long way. Take a few minutes now to put these steps in place and you’ll be ready if the unexpected happens.
